Valuing Business Culture
I had the privilege of attending the HREU Summit for www.top100inrealestate.com on May 7, 2010, and while there was honored to meet and then hear present none other than Jonathan Washburn, Founder and Chief Executive of Active Rain.
What impressed me most about Jonathan, more than his incredible knowledge of technology, more than his sage advice about blogging, and more than his commitment to building an amazing network for real estate, was his vision of community and culture.
In building community, he shared, two things are of paramount importance. First, fiercely guard your culture. If someone on your team doesn’t commit to your values, have passion for your vision, and genuinely care, get rid of that person right away. Second, build raving fans. Spend only 10% of your time and energy on the “angry” people, and pour 90% of your time and effort into the happy people who use your services and products. And be available to your customers. Be willing to address their concerns.
I’ll bottom line it this way: being clear about your values and your vision drives everything else. Jonathan has this SOLID. So, how clear are you on what your values are? And how articulate is your vision?
